#WEPff winners for the August GARDENS challenge! Please pop in and say congratulations!

Hello Everyone!

Thanks to all who participated during the 2016 August GARDENS WEP challenge. The entries were truly amazing and made reading a pure pleasure. What creativity on the theme. Obviously we love our gardens and see all sorts of possibilities for ideas within.  If you still haven't finished reading, please continue, using the DL links on the previous post.

And once again, we thank Olga Godim for her excellent badges which we've now used as the winners' badges!

We value each and every story submitted to WEP, but there is the excruciating choice of choosing just one winner amongst the many of winning quality. Yolanda and I agree that is the hardest part of this job. Here is a quick overview of the entries (in  no particular order):

The entries that fired our imaginations and made the long list are:

Elephant's Child
Olga Godim
Pat Garcia
Kate McManus
Nilanjana Bose

So without further ado – The Winners!

THE WINNER OF THE
2016 WEP August GARDENS CHALLENGE IS:

Nilanjana Bose!
with her amazing poem. If you haven't read it already, pop by the link in Nila's name above.

As one commenter said, "'This is astounding poetry. Rich, rich imagery that sweeps the earth, past, present, and future. By the second stanza I'm enthralled ... "and thrown them like javelins straight and hard,
when the meek come to leash the elite;'" Ann Best.

Congratulations Nila!

Please accept the winner's badge and display on your blog with a link to your excellent story.

Thanks everyone, for an exciting August!
You're all winners in our eyes!

Thank you for taking on the challenge and delighting us all with your creativity!

Our next challenge - October -  where we're planning to offer two challenges -- Constellations or a Halloween post. If  you can somehow merge both, genius.
Meanwhile, keep writing and taking those photographs!

  2. I am pleased to accept any badge, so Merci and Thanks!! I will certainly display it although I nearly fell off my chair when EC sent a comment on the blog that said congrats. (eh? did I miss something me thought.. .) I also congratulate Nila and Pat for their accomplishments and all the entrants for coming up with such interesting reading. . . I love WEP for two reasons: it gets me writing short stuff, and I get to see what others are writing. Thanks to the hosts: Denise and Yolanda, you guys keep it working!

    1. Hey Michael. You know how much I loved your descriptive story. You will agree with us that we had some A-mazing entries this time and it's always so hard to whittle those down to 3. I'm glad you fitted it in this month and hope you will return in October!

  4. Hi Denise and Yolanda - an excellent choice: Nila's poem was quite extraordinary ... and so expressive. There were such a range of posts - and I know mine wasn't flash fiction - but I enjoyed being able to write about that garden with its memories for me ...

They were lovely and I need to visit the other entrants and congratulate Nila on her win ...

Great fun - and thanks for hosting ... cheers Hilary

    1. The entries don't have to be flash fiction, Hilary, and many weren't this time as GARDENS lent itself to a non-fiction response as much as fiction. It was adorable to have you along this time. I hope you'll participate again!

  5. Thank you, Denise and Yolanda, and WEP-ers! I am beyond thrilled. So pleased I can have Olga's badge permanently on my sidebar. I too, like DG, got here because of EC's comment :)

Seriously though, I just totally loved writing to this particular prompt. It has produced an absolutely stellar array of entries from everybody, enjoyed each one of them. I personally value WEP for the nudge and push towards things way out of my comfort zone, it makes me think and the unique prompts get uniquely creative responses.

    1. So pleased you're pleased with WEP, Nila. We certainly love having a poet of your calibre as a regular participant. We don't always send emails to winners, especially not this month as both Yolanda and I are absolutely swamped! :-)

  6. Congratulations to the winners! I missed Nila and Pat's stories but did read DG's and LOVED it. Have to check out Nila and Pat now. I can imagine how hard it was to pick winners - every entry I read was so fantastic. You guys do a great job with this hop!
