August 19 - SPECTACULAR SETTINGS.
This first challenge has two parts. You may do both parts or just one. Your choice.
For this challenge you will:
1. Firstly
share a paragraph from a novel, or an extract from a poem, or a
photograph that stopped your heart with a spectacular setting etc.
2. Describe how your chosen
'setting' spoke to you. Why did you like it?
3. Then you have the option to:
a) write
your own 'setting' piece in any genre, or share a ‘setting’ from your WIP, or…
b) write
your own poem which highlights 'setting', or
c) share
a photograph that blows you away every time you look at it and tell us why.
d) share
an artwork that shows a 'setting' you love and tell us why you love it.
e) write
a small playscript which highlights 'setting'.
Here is the InLinkz code if you want to paste onto your blog:

So cool to finally see it live - now the fun begins. Even started writing my submission this evening!
ReplyDeleteGreat that you're on the way! Can't, just can't, wait to see the results of this challenge.
DeleteMe too. Have been thinking about it for ages, (((smirky face))) but will start writing, or see what i have in my WIPs to post. Choosing my favourite paragraph from a published novel will be tough as I have soooo many! :-)
ReplyDeleteYou're right that's going to be the hard part. Hmmm...
DeleteEntered, spread the word on my FB Page, and scheduled some tweets. I love this concept--really hoping for it to take off!
ReplyDeleteWith supporters like you going gangbusters, Damyanti, how can it not? Just that everyone is so darned busy it's not always easy to maintain the rage!! But Yolanda and I are really determined to give it our all! Great that you signed up so quickly! Gives us encouragement! And thanks for the shares! We appreciate it so much! :-)
DeleteLike I said to Yolanda on Twitter, I've always wanted to start something like this, but never had the time, or the right partners in crime. If either you or Yolanda would like to guest post about the challenge on my blog, most welcome. I hope this one takes off and keeps going.
DeleteThe right partners in crime is the necessary. I tried doing it alone but way too much! Hopefully Yolanda and I can keep this powering along into the bright future as we both believe totally in this concept. Also, though, can't do it without enthusiastic participants. There's always a cosy little core, but new blood helps a heap. Thank you for spreading the word over and above...you're always a gem. Thank you, thank you!
DeleteYou are an amazing asset to our cause! Thanks Damyantiwrites! Just amazing!
DeleteI found you through Guilie's post on Facebook and will spread the word. Looking forward to it!
ReplyDeleteFantastic Debbie! Lovely to have you!
DeleteDebbie has spread the word to me. I'm recruited! Look like fun.
DeleteThat's wonderful Angelika. Lovely to have you! It will be lots of fun.
DeleteWonderful, so glad others are spreading the word. Welcome Debbie, so glad you're here!
DeleteAnd Angelika, thank you too! This is exciting!
DeleteOooh. Thinking, thinking, thinking. I will certainly be back to read and applaud and may get the courage to dip my toes in the water. Perhaps.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your support. I really hope you realise that it's okay to launch yourself right into this great experience. Part A is an option. Share someone else's work if you're nervous sharing your own. Although there's no need to be nervous amongst like minds. :-)
DeleteI'd like to encourage EC too, she has an eye for photography and might enjoy the fun!
DeleteThank you both. Toes will be dipped.
DeleteSo pleased you're going to be dipping your toes in EC! Welcome!
DeleteToe dipping is a good thing, but be careful, it's very addictive, especially when the water is so warm! Welcome EC and DG!
DeleteI found about it from Damyanti's Facebook page. Loved the concept.
ReplyDeleteWelcome Kiran! Glad you like the concept! Thanks for joining up for our first challenge! :-)
DeleteThanks Kiran, so glad to have you, and Damyanti's a one woman recruiter. Love it!
DeletePiyush, welcome to the WEP blog hop! Can't wait to see your entry. :-)
ReplyDeleteYes, Piyush, welcome, but 4 entries? Very prolific, can't wait to see them!
DeleteWell, I'm so glad this has been revived, Denise and Yolanda. It's different in format now, which tweaks my interest and short is about all I can handle while I try to settle in to our new abode. I'm musing about it as I write this. . .thanks to you both for kickstarting my creative muse.
ReplyDeleteI think going twice monthly will be more manageable if we want to do it properly which we do. I hope you are settling into your new abode. Also hope the creative muse will kickstart your Paris story. So looking forward to August 19th!
DeleteYes semi-monthly is a great idea. I always let my ideas simmer, and then suddenly there it is. Enjoy your new place! Thank so much for signing on!
DeleteI wasn't going to sign up for any hops or extras this month, but you've enticed me!
ReplyDeleteWe're so thrilled to have such a cast of talented authors to kick off again! Thanks Lee!
DeleteCool, so glad we could. Wouldn't be the same without you lee!
DeleteIncommunicado due to heavy rains, but finally got to the party! Wouldn't miss this one for the world! :) Travelling back to Bah during that week, so may be a bit late to read, but late or not will be there.
ReplyDeleteThe reading will still be there Nila. Hope you're having a fab time. Thanks so much
DeleteWelcome Nila, so wonderful to have you on board. Hope your vacation is still fabulous despite the weather!
DeleteI've signed up!
ReplyDeleteWelcome Madilyn! Lovely to see you here!
DeleteYes Ditto, so happy to have you here!
DeletePlease pardon my confusion but what do you mean by: DELETE your former link & add the new direct link with the URL of your entry.
ReplyDeleteHi Feather Stone. That mainly applies to peeps who post on their blog every day or more than once a week. Then readers can't find the actual WEP entry. Happens a lot. People are in a hurry so they just forget it. If you direct link after you've posted, then it remains easy to find. I'll send out an email to clarify before August 19.
DeleteGreat to see you back!
Denise :-)
Feather:
DeleteFirst, so glad you've signed up! But to answer your question:
We love knowing who the number of and who is participating so emails can be sent with reminders before the actual event. If you'll note the address to your blog such as:
http://writeeditpublishnow.blogspot.com/
Anyone clicking on the link will go directly to that particular blog, the most recent posted. So once you've finished your submission and post it on your blog, you'll delete the original link to your blog and add the link to your blog post, which is also the blog URL with the title in it – as this:
http://writeeditpublishnow.blogspot.com/2015/07/spectacular-settings-mean-spectacular.html
Now when folks click your link it will take them directly to your post / story for the challenge. And that will remain throughout the challenge and beyond as long as you don't delete the post, giving others a chance to read your work. The views for these challenges are amazing! It's a great way to bring new readers and followers, and get the feedback you want.
Also, to get the title to show up in your link, just click on the title of your post, and it will appear as the URL, copy that, and paste!
I hope that helps. Let me know and ask any question, any time.
I've signed up. Gosh I hope I can find some inspiration in time!
ReplyDeleteHey Trisha, I've no doubt you will!
DeleteI'm sure you'll come up with something Trisha. Just segue your way in.
DeleteI added my link.
ReplyDeleteNow off to think about my entry...
Hi Michelle,
DeleteLooking forward to reading your work!
This is like old times Michelle! So cool!
DeleteI've posted!
DeleteI'll admit that I'm a bit nervous... trying something brand new...
*Deep breathe*
But I'm wearing my "big-girl-pants"....
I found this site through IWSG and am I glad I did. I subscribed and I'm going to join this challenge. I have one question though. For the initial piece that 'blows me away' - does it have to be a photo or could it be a painting? I found that photos, no matter how good, rarely touch me on the same level paintings do.
ReplyDeleteA painting would be lovely. Please, do! Welcome Olga, so glad to have you on board! Any other questions just ask!
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteOK, I'm in. :) Thanks for the encouragement, Denise.
ReplyDeleteSo, so excited you took up the challenge Li. You won't regret it!
DeleteMy entry is now going through a spit shine. :-) I have to tweet this too, y'all. But you are getting a lot of entries. YEAH! :-)
ReplyDeleteI just chose my Part B today. Glad you've chosen yours. Well, yeah, 31 is a nice starting number but we could handle a few more! Thanks for your Twitter support!
DeleteI've signed up and am really looking forward to this. Have a couple of ideas now just need the discipline to put pen to paper. And time of course. Cheers from Delhi.
ReplyDeleteTruly excited to have you Kalpanaa, wishing you inspiration and happy writing!
DeleteSigned up! Looks like fun.
ReplyDeleteIt will be Bish! Welcome!
DeleteI signed up I read the comments and I noted the explanation about the new link once the entry is posted. Do you mean we have to title our entry spectacular settings mean spectacular??? I am a bit confused on that. Or do I just write up my poem and give it the title I want and then how does it link to the challenge. Not entirely sure at all about this.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the challenge Rasma. I will send you an email with further explanation, but meanwhile...Once you've written/posted your entry, (adding WEP to the Post Title), you add it to the linky with 'Direct Link' and your name. Then delete your original link, number 39 above.
DeletePart A of the challenge is to post something that you've read that is amazing with its setting--maybe a paragraph from a story or a poem for example. Part B is where you create/post your own poem with its own title. In the Post Title, you might add--WEP Spectacular Settings challenge--my poem, ADD TITLE...
I hope that's a little clearer Rasma. Meanwhile, I'm sending you an email.
Denise :-)
Hi Denise, Hi Yolanda,
ReplyDeleteWell, I've just signed up. I read this some time ago, but it took me some time to get up the nerves and also to choose the blog I wanted to use for my short stories. If I read the instructions correctly I have until August 26 to post my selection, right?
Another question - how many words to I have to have describing a setting that I really like? I hope it is not a thousand words.
Shalom,
Pat Garcia
Hi Pat, so happy to have you aboard! The challenge runs from the 19th through the 26th, so yes you can post as late as the 26th, but also note that the earlier posts receive the most comments. As for the first part of the challenge, the setting you share as one of your personal favorites should be closer to, but no more than 200 words. Your flash fiction piece less than or no more than 1000 words. I hope that helps, if not email either me or Denise. And again, we're so glad you've signed on
DeleteI've posted, but I don't see a way to delete my old link. This is my new one:
ReplyDeletehttp://twfwordstuff.blogspot.com.au/2015/08/write-edit-publish-spectacular-settings.html
Thanks :)
All done Trish! Thanks for posting.
DeleteSorry, I'm new to this blog and hop. What does the "DL" in the linky stand for?
ReplyDeleteHi J Lenni Dorner, welcome to the WEP
DeleteD L means Direct Link - which means when you link up the title of your post shows in the URL - this will allow others to find your entry weeks from now. From this page it will always go directly to your WEP submission. Thanks for asking.
I was thinking that was probably the case, but I wanted to know for sure. Thanks for the reply. I'm working on getting something together for this.
DeleteWonderful, we look forward to reading your work!
DeleteWell, it took me longer than I expected, but my post is finally up! Loving the stories I've come across so far!
ReplyDeleteGreat that you made it Arpan. Thanks for visiting my blog!
